1949

BCEOM ("Bureau Central d'Etudes pour les Equipements d'Outre-Mer") engineering consultancy, was founded by the Ministry of French Overseas Territories. It was a semi-public company designed to participate in major infrastructure development projects, particularly in the field of transport, financed by France in French-speaking Africa

1960 - 1980

1949
BCEOM collaborated with new international aid organisations including the World Bank. During this period, BCEOM adapted its offer to the international market and took advantage of fresh opportunities by modifying its organisation and, between 1970 and 1980, diversifying its geographic reach and technical fields (Urban Development Projects, Water, Rural Development).

1980

In the early 1980s, BCEOM developed its activities in French markets and BCEOM France was set up. Decentralisation laws gave local authorities new prerogatives and greater resources and stimulated the engineering market. BCEOM seized this golden opportunity for growth. Its domestic activity rapidly grew to 20% of the overall turnover and has remained stable ever since.

1990s

The World Bank and the European Union began to distribute funds to other regions of the world and particularly Eastern Europe. Programmes for major regional development (8th EDF, Phare, Tacis, MEDA of the European Commission, for example) and privatisation created a favourable opportunity for BCEOM to optimise its activity and affirm its place as leader in its sector.

1996

BCEOM joined the EGIS Group, a subsidiary of the "Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations" (French Savings Bank) which was diversifying its activities internationally. BCEOM is the Group's leading company in the sectors of Official Development Assistance (ODA) on the one hand and Water and the Environment on the other, with a turnover of €62.2M, projects in about 100 countries, a world network of representatives, subsidiaries and shareholdings and an untarnished company image.

2007

Egis is implementing an ambitious reorganisation project for the group and its subsidiaries in order to gain in coherency and clarity. The objective is to double the group’s turnover in 5 years around its five main strategic markets: roads, railways, water, urban development and air transport in France and internationally.
For this purpose, Egis and its member companies are adopting a new visual identity symbolising an approach based on humanity, responsibility and global expertise.
