Coastal engineering

Coastal areas are special, indeed unique places where salt and fresh water meet, interact and propagate life. They are also much sought after, fragile places. BCEOM endeavours to strike a balance between the demands of economic development and environmental protection. There again, a multidisciplinary approach enables the development of urban, industrial and tourist activities to be reconciled with the protection of nature.

Our expertise

Studying coastal ecosystems through the analysis of oceanographic data, measurements, monitoring and ecological appraisals,
Modelling hydrodynamic phenomena in the sea, estuaries and shorelines, in order to simulate flow patterns, study salinity and sedimentation parameters and analyse potential pollution,
Using marine resource development plans and coastal development and management contracts for planning purposes,
Designing and sizing port works and protecting against marine erosion: dykes, yards, pontoons, quays, breakwaters, groynes.

Our experience

GUINEA - Study of the impact of the Garafiri and Kaleta Dams on the Konkoure Estuary and catchment area (1998-2003).

The hydroelectric development of the Garifiri Dam, to be followed by that of Kaleta, will cause modifications in the hydrological regime of the Konkoure. The study proposes to rigorously monitor these modifications and their effects over several annual cycles so as to submit a set of relevant information and analyses to the authorities to enable them to take suitable action for developing the area (estuary and coastal area).

INDONESIA - South Java Sectoral Flood Control Project (1997-2002).

The purpose of this ADB-financed project is to improve the quality of life in the project area through sound management of the natural resources and the environment, so as to eliminate regular flooding and subsequent damage and disease (flood warning system, monitoring river characteristics, studying the influence of the sea on river mouths).
